ࡱ> 02/Y bjbjWW ,==]JJJJJ VJ~~~~~~~~$~~~~~ ~~~ ~.~~"("~ ~r @7JJ^UUFM Board Feb 13 2006 Present: Bonna Graham-Hall, Chair; Barbara Berens, Barbara Cragg, Ray Aten, Cyndy Aten, Margery Palmer, Ellen Strommen The meeting was called to order by Bonna at 7:05. Administrative matters Minutes were approved as read. Barbara B. presented the Treasurers Report, updated through Feb 14, pointing out areas where budgeted and actual figures were off. In most cases there were explanations (eg house insurance paid for the entire year when we are only two months into it, producing apparent deficit, or pledges paid up for the entire year producing an apparent surplus.) However, she did note the costs of room rental at MCT and the failure of income from services to reach projected levels; we need to keep an eye on this as we approach June. If the projected increase doesnt materialize we need to think carefully about how to proceed, as we are spending into our reserves. In response to questions, Barbara also noted that income is down in rent (she is checking to find out why) and in contributions, and at the same time some expenses are upproperty tax, McMasters consultation fee, energy. What of leadership school? Atens are considering it for this year or next. Funds are already budgeted for this expense. Barbara C reported that Programs are scheduled as follows: March 5guest, March 12James Usher; March 19, Youth service; March 26, Justice Sunday; April 2, Jodi Allison-Bunnell; April 15, James Usher. Roy and Cyndy Aten volunteered for a service in April or May. Combinations for padlocks at MCT were provided to Board members so that others besides Bonna and Margery would be able to open the lockers there. Margery is still revising the checklist for setting up, greeting, and doing coffee hour. (Bonna e-mailed the checklist Feb. 13.) Access to the UUFM portion of the UUA Website: Most of the UUA website is open to anyone, but each congregation has a members-only portion as well which lists the members of the congregation, among other things. The congregation number is 5725, which can also be found on the UUA website; The password, which permits changing of UUFM information, was made available to Board members who may have legitimate reasons for this access, such as updating membership lists. There were some funds left over from the gifts for the person we sponsored at Christmas. Bonna noted another person needed a sturdy TV stand. So UUFM contributed the materials and Frank Hall generously built the stand, a sturdy and attractive wooden stand with a back and two shelves. Prior to the meeting Bonna passed around cards from both the recipient of the stand and his caseworker thanking the Fellowship. Our appreciation and gratitude is expressed to Frank for building the stand.. Rental charged to CAJA has been increased from $75 to $125, in light of their increased usage of the spacefrom 1 day to 2 days (or more). What donation should be charged at movie nights to give to the Palmers who are providing the digital projector for the movies? Should there be a per-person charge? Pass the hat? Mac and Margery say $1/person is enough; probably we will just pass the hat. March 11 is movie night. The movie will be Triplets of Belville. Bonna announced that Yogananda Self-realization sessions are being held Sundays from 2:304 at the Fellowship house. Catherine Morris, one of the Saturday Reiki practitioners, leads the sessions. Those who havent attended before are encouraged to arrive by 2:25 (those putting on the service are here setting up by about 2:00). Open non-denominational meditation follows from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. There is a discrepancy in the Annual Program Fund charge from UUA, which is assessed at $51/member. UUA billed $1785 whereas we had budgeted, and paid, $1530, leaving a discrepancy of $255 (5 members worth) yet to be paid . Barbara B. is checking on the source of the discrepancy. UUSC sent a thank-you letter to the Fellowship for contributions to the Earthquake Relief Fund. Barbara B. reports that there is $134.11 more to be sent. Planning. Western Montana Spiritual Council is bringing Jim Wallis to Missoula next fall, either end of September or first week in October. This is the group that sponsored Marcus Borg last year. They ask whether we will buy and resell a block of tickets to Wallis talk. Upshot of discussion: If blocks are 100 tickets, no. If they can be smaller, say 20 tickets, yes. Further regarding programs, Justice Sunday is March 26, so the program will be related to that theme. Also, Bonna received an e-mail from Raina Rose, a singer who will be here on April 16 and offers to sing. It was unclear whether the offer was to do a service for which an honorarium and other arrangements might be required, or simply to sing a song or two during our regular service. Since we are being careful about spending, probably no to a full service, but if she would like to come and sing we would love to have her. Bonna will check back. Rental of MCT was revisited. Margery noted that the increase in offering revenues which typically follows going to a new and larger site often takes a number of weeks to materialize. The main thing that came out of the discussion is reiteration of Barbaras point during the treasurers report: We need to keep an eye on this, and look closely in June at how things are going. U District Neighborhood meeting on Feb 16 will include discussion of sidewalk repair; we need someone to attend on behalf of the Fellowship to find out whats happening. Ellen led the rush of volunteers for the opportunity to attend. Mac Palmer submitted a request for the Western Montana Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society to meet in the Fellowship house from 79:30 the last Thursday of every month. Unanimous approval. Whats happening with the renter? Mac is now liaison with Lambros. The condition of the place is better but still not good. The renter was put on notice that the place had to be cleaned up, and has been doing some cleanup. Whats available for developing small congregations? Ray raised the question as something for a future board meeting. Whats there at UUA/ Mountain Desert District? What might be useful for us? Lois Van Leer is organizing a workshop to be led by the new Mountain Desert District Executive, Nancy Bowen. The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 13 in Bozeman. Lois asks that registrants commit by the end of this month to facilitate for planning. Bozeman UUs can provide home hospitality; or our delegation could come back on the same day. Ray asked for clarification of what constitutes a contribution of record in determining membership. (Criterion at UUA: A member has signed the membership book and has made a contribution of record.) Answer: Our policy is that any contribution is a contribution of record. There is no minimum amount to qualify for membership. Newsletter Deadline: Tuesday February 28, 5 pm.
