From: "Bonna Graham-Hall" To: "Second newsletter list" ; Subject: Weekly update Dec. 20 Date: Thursday, December 20, 2007 2:25 PM Hi Everyone-- ~~The recent news about the murder of Forrest Salcido, a local homeless man, was both shocking and horrifying. It's been a frequent topic of concern for many, on top of other recent hate crimes in Missoula. Because of his senseless death, Today, December 20th, a number of organizations, including JRPC are coming together for two events to respond . We hope you can join us at one or both this evening: * *--5:30pm * Take Back the Bridge Candlelight Vigil *, California Street Footbridge, Candles provided, turn onto California St. off West Broadway approximately where Toole Ave. meets Broadway. --6:00pm * We Are Missoula-Rally Against Violence *, The Badlander Lounge, 208 Ryman St., just off Broadway across the street,(toward the river), from the Missoula County Courthouse, just around the corner from the Import Market. ~~Unfortunately he good news about Joyce Clarke's pathology report has changed. From a stage I for the needle biopsy, the complete pathology exam showed stage III, and she will be doing chemotherapy every 3 weeks for 6 times, beginning December 27. I know I don't have to remind you to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She will let us know if she needs a ride to the Cancer Center or if she would appreciate some light meals. ~~Our "We Care" Christmas adoptees have changed to include both a developmentally disabled senior citizen, and a family of 3 in which the mother, who was working, fell and broke her arm and leg. We are contributing $150 to the family's utility bill and buying socks and underwear for the older man. Not very exciting, but necessary in both cases. In another change, we are using some of the money that was raised during the fall bazaar to fund these gifts. Abaki Beck was able to purchase all the gifts for the "Giving Tree" youngsters with money raised from the chili feed -- and with help from her grandmother. She did a very nice job and spent considerable time and thought on their gifts. ~~Michelle Fields turns 50 on Sunday. There will be a birthday cake for her and a card to sign. Come help celebrate. If you have talked to Michelle lately, you know she will enjoy a sarcastic card. ~~On Christmas Day from 4 - 7 pm everyone is invited for a dessert potluck and to play Scrabble or other board games at my house, 644 Woodworth Ave, 1/2 block off Arthur. If you can, bring a small dessert -- or carrots and celery sticks if that sounds better! ~~Sara Gruen's Water for Elephants is the January book selection for the Eclectic Readers. Discussion is Thursday, Jan. 17, 7:00 pm at Mary Nordhagen's, 630 Dearborn, 529-0857, mnordhagen@alpsnet.com You are welcome to join in even if it's for only one session.
